My Blog's 5th Birthday!

I cannot believe it. My blog is five years old! Five years ago I posted my first ever blog post called "Armrest Pest" (not my finest piece of work I must admit, so no I refuse to link you to it!) and it spiraled into this hobby that I've continued for a whole five years. When I first created my blog is was originally called www.carolineamalone.blogspot.co.uk and pretty sure it was just "Caroline Malone". It had the classic "Travel" blogger template as I had very little knowledge on what CSS was and I was like "nope - this looks ok".

After that, around 2 years later, I changed to "Caroline's Space". It started off with the "Watermark" template with those flying bird thingies but then I started to think I knew all about coding etc and opted away from the original templates and tried out my own...Not good. It was pretty much an open diary for the world to read. I had poetry, comment articles, newspaper articles, beauty posts, recipe posts and travel posts. It was a bit of a mess I'll be honest with you at the very beginning but I loved it no matter what. I would never go back and delete my old posts because I think it would be such a shame to delete a little bit of my past.

It's only recently that I discovered that my blog needed an upgrade, just like the blogosphere has upgraded since I started. My friend started her blog and she made me realise the new age of blogging. My blog was originally linked to my personal Instagram and Twitter because back then I didn't really know the best way to advertise and promote my blog. Well...to be fair Instagram was only JUST created 5 years ago. I decided to take a different approach, making a new Twitter and Instagram account solely for this blog and more importantly, changed the layout and the name of my blog. The reason I wanted to change my name to reflect my all time favourite quote, "some of us get dipped in flat, some in satin, some in gloss. But every once in a while, you find someone who's iridescent, and when you do, nothing will ever compare." I know it may sound drastic and at the same time you fear you've lost those people who knew it as "Caroline's Space" -  It sounded a lot more charming and beautiful than just Caroline's Space. I then realised that it needed to start representing the things I am currently interested in; beauty, lifestyle, travel and food. Gosh I love food. So there we go, Iridescent Places was reborn!

So, happy 5th birthday to my blog! Here's to more future blog posts and happy blogging!

  1. I love that quote! It's cool learning why people choose the name that they did for their blogs. Happy birthday to your blog! <3

  3. Congrats on achieving such an amazing milestone! I have been questioning myself as to whether or not I should change my name. There are just so many consequences in doing so in terms of people recognising your blog as being the same blogger from before but just with a new name.
Anyways, I wish you and your blog everything of the best and I look forward to reading more posts! xx

    1. Thank you! I know how you feel, I definitely changed my name with the whole rebranding of my blog so it made it more of a "new launch" rather than just spontaneously changing my blog name but yes I even had quite a few of my friends saying "wait you never post about your blog anymore" and had to explain that I moved it!

Thank you again for reading! xx

  4. Happy 5th birthday to your blog! I think I've been blogging on various places for about ten years but not the same one, so it's quite a commitment! Well done for not being afraid to experiment and try new things with it x

  8. I have a Twitter and Facebook for my blog but I've been contemplating an Instagram... Do you think it's helped you reach more people? I've been hesitant to put my blog stuff on my person Instagram as not to overwhelm my family and friends (relevant to your post - your friends may not get it!). Plus I thought 2 Instagrams would be confusing?!

    1. Personally I think Instagram gets a lot of my viewers! I did have my blog instagram mixed with my personal one and I just don't think it worked as well - I would totally recommend having a blog instagram that is solely for blogging and don't think it is confusing at all! I use my personal one for all my friends and family to see and my blog one is just basically full of makeup and blog bits and bobs, things that are relevant to my blog! Let me know if you decide to create a new one and I'll for sure be a follower! xx
