Things I, As A Blogger, Don't Tell You

1) A lot of money is spent. Now I know a lot of bloggers like to say that you don't particularly need a lot of money to start a blog, which yes, to some degree is true. But rather than spending money solely on my blog, it's more the issue of reading other people's blogs which get my buying and buying. Do you know how many cleansers and lipsticks I have purchased because of these people!? Yes I blame you, not my blatant shopping habit that I have. With buying does of course come blogging, so it's this never ending circle of buying and being poor. Which I can't do. But somehow manage to do. Student life.

2) There are some things you want to blog about but just can't. Whether it be too personal or you are worried your readers will want to start throwing rocks at you telepathically you just can't. I was very close to writing a blog post a couple of weeks ago on a topic I desperately wanted to rant about but as my blog is obviously public and not anonymous I just couldn't. I couldn't bare to read the comments either. The struggle. is. real....especially when I love being honest with my readers, but sometimes honesty can be a little bit of a nightmare to face.... I bet you all desperately want to know what the topic is now don't you...

3) Not all of your friends will "get it". I have some friends who have been reading my blog for years and always talking to me about it and think it's fun and also just like looking at the pretty pictures - Hi Nesli! Some on the other hand just don't get it? If we're out for dinner or lunch and I'm like "ermagad cute tea cup, must photograph for blog" they look at me with that emoji face that has the straight line and wide eyes. Yeah you know the one.

4) It takes up a lot of time. Whether it be taking blog photos, planning blog posts, writing those blog posts or taking Instagram photos, you will spend hours if not more trying to get that white background looking snow white. The worst part? There's only around 2 hours in the day where the sunlight is mildly photo-acceptable and neither bright blue or disastrously orange.

5) Half the time I have no idea what I'm talking about. I am by no means a beauty or lifestyle guru. I would never claim to be anything more than a complete makeup amateur. Emphasis on the amateur bit. I mean for goodness sake for past probably five years I've been wearing the wrong shade of foundation and never used bronzer, hence why my makeup reviews are usually very plain and simple only using "beauty" words like; swatch and pigment every so often to make myself sound Iggy Azalea fancy - because I'd hate to lead you into believing I'm the master of contouring. Which I also didn't do until about a year ago.

6) I eat a lot. Some of my blog posts have been on "healthy" alternatives and probably giving you that mentality that I eat healthily. Ha - I do not. I like doughnuts. I like chinese food. I can probably eat 5 Curly Wurly's in one sitting. Flashback to the time that I actually did this drunk in first year - so much shame. This by all means goes into the "just because I blog about it, doesn't mean I necessarily only eat this" thing. Also just because I tweet/instagram the fact that I gym doesn't mean I don't eat my weight in quavers either. Don't remember the last time I used my smoothie maker. hmmm.

7) It's not as glamorous as it may seem. Okay, well maybe it is for the high flying bloggers out there but for me you will most likely find my writing a blog post in my pyjama bottoms eating oreos in my bed. Hi I'm Caroline, 21, single and obviously hot on the market right now. Please come flock to me and wait in that very long invisible line. Sometimes the person in the flat across from my stares when I'm weirdly taking photos on my windowsill in my bathrobe. Yes you - I see you and it's totally acceptable what I'm doing.

8) Gaining followers is a lot harder than thought. There are hundreds of thousands of beauty, lifestyle, food and travel bloggers out there. You really do have to bring something "different" to the table. Not really sure what mine is, probably the fact that I joke far too much about my unattractive appearance half the time - because that's so funny and hilarious Caroline, nice one, gosh your so quirky and unique.

So there are eight of the things that I, as a blogger, don't tell you. Well, now you know - the secret is out!

  9. When I saw your instagram about this post I immediately got so excited cause I knew I was going to relate it, love it and laugh out loud when I read it! Caroline, you never fail to disappoint! :D

The blogging community continues to make my list of beauty things to buy neverending, for sure. Haha I feel like none of us would ever throw rocks at you! I always say a good vent/rant is so necessary at times. Because I'm still so new with blogging not all of my friends know about it still, but the few that do - some of them love it and some of them...don't quite understand :P Number 6 and 7 is just TRUTH - but not even ashamed about it though. To me, PJs and food are two of the best things ever. If I could live in PJs all day, I totally would.

And Caroline, don't even, you are SO, SO stunning. And I've said it so many times before, but I get SO excited for your posts - I always know they're going to make me smile :)

  15. 1, 4, 7, and 8 are totally my life! I feel like I've spent a lot of money blogging - buying back drops, products, lighting... - BUT I look at my friends who spend hundreds on new fishing poles, skis, etc. - everyone spends money on hobbies so it makes me feel better. [Or at least that's I tell myself that.] And I'm so nervous to tell the next guy I date that I blog. I hope to find a guy who gets it but, I live in Idaho, USA sooo... haha. Blogging is definitely not a get rich quick kind of thing; it takes time, money, and yeah I agree something a little different but who knows what that is! Glad you stuck with it :)

    1. This is so true! I spend ridiculous amounts on random little flatlay props! This is definitely an expensive hobby but so rewarding and I probably would never have found any of my makeup products that work for me without the blogging world! Oh honestly don't worry! a lot of guys don't really care what it is! One of the guys I know, who I told, was actually quite impressed, which says something! xx

  16. YES!!! The white background is such a huge struggle that I actually give up half the time because I have taken hundreds of photos, wanted to pull my hair out, and became the biggest stress case ever. I really relate to all of this!! xoxoxo.

  17. Such a funny post, I seriously could relate to pretty much everything! Especially the taking instagram photos in coffee shops, my friends think I'm so weird.. they just don't understand the importance of a pretty feed hahaha! The white background struggle killed me for months, I used to use a white duvet then just over expose to hell out of it but now I've switched to using marble and things are so much easier haha! Fab post!

    1. Got to love a bit of contrast and over exposure! I'm all about my white windowsill as it's the only white thing in my dorm room! I definitely need to purchase some card or something! Ohhhh I am so on with that marble idea, I saw a gorgeous marble tray in town the other day...all for the gain of blogging right! xx
