Yay's and Nay's of Drugstore Liquid Lipsticks

Liquid lipsticks are another 2016 hit in the beauty world that I couldn't not take part in, even if my bank account was begging me not to. As the name suggests, a liquid lipstick is a liquid formula for a supposedly hydrated "matte" finish of highly pigmented colour. There are A LOT of liquid lipsticks in the market, some high-end, some drugstore, some mid-range so it's difficult to really know what the best ones out there are. So I decided to put together a list of my Yays and Nays of drugstore liquid lipsticks because I'm still a student and can't afford high-end, to ensure that you spend your money on the liquid lipstick that really does tick all the boxes for 2016.

Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor  in 'Flirtation'

Pfsh, how can we have a liquid lipstick blog post without this product. Okay spoiler, it's my first product I talk about, but I would have to say, formula wise, this is my second-favourite of them all. Revlon, you have totally impressed me. This, although not the most pigmented (two coats is full coverage) it is very hydrating and I don't experience any crumble. At all guys. It's amaaahzzing! But the one thing I have to say, is it isn't matte. And this is probably why it doesn't crumble or dry. It's not exactly shiny or a lustre finish, but not completely matt either. I love the packaging of this product, so sleek and I seriously wish I picked up some other colours, I hear 'Devotion' is a good'n! Guys if you're looking for a hydrating drugstore liquid lipstick, this is for you!

Milani Amore Matte Lip Crème in 'Allure' and 'Cherish'

I picked these two up a while ago in a Milani Haul when I found out that us lovely people in the UK could finally get our hands on their products, squeel of delight! I have to say, packaging wise, love, they look so luxurious and just stunning! The applicator is a little flimsy, so its quite hard to get a precise line though. One of the problems that I found was when looking online (because you can only buy them online), the shades never really look the same as when they arrive, and I believe the UK switched up a few of the names, so google searching for swatches was hard. Regardless onto the product. One of the things I love the most about this product is the smell, ermagad it smells like cake. Yum. Secondly, the pigmentation. The pigmentation of these are out of this world, something that you can tell in the swatches below.

The formula, is completely matte but with a little warning, you do need to have hydrated lips for these. I found the brighter shade 'Cherish' to last a lot longer, and appear less crumbly than 'Allure', probably because of 'Allure' being more of a nude shade, and therefore crumbliness is more visible. The lasting time on this one is around 5 hours, but by then, unfortunately, I don't think you can just "touch up" but more like "wipe off and reapply" because otherwise you're applying wet product onto crumbly product, meh. I love the shades of these but as someone with dry lips, I only venture into these if I'm going out for a couple of hours, or if I've done the whole lip scrub and blistex combo beforehand!

Mua Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in 'Passion' and 'Zest'

Although very pretty to look at, I have to say these are the most dissapointed out of all the drugstore liquid lipsticks I own, such a shame! They were only £3, so I'm glad I didn't buy more but jeez louis do these crumble. I mean don't get me wrong, the pigmentation is intense, as is the longevity (they took an absolute age to wipe off my arm), but they work for about 2 hours before they start looking meh. The smell of these is quite odd, kind of like a 'chemically sweet lemon scent'....which I can't tell whether or not I like it...compared to the Milani one....not as great. I love the applicator of these, it's quite sturdy and therefore you can get a nice straight line but on the whole, I wouldn't recommend these, sorry Mua!

We all know I can't talk about makeup unless I bring in some sort of Makeup Revolution Product.  There weren't many shades of these that I particularly liked to be honest for Spring and Summer time as most of them were quite dark However this baby pink lip shade totally spoke to me. This unscented product is actually really really nice. I would say this is my third favourite out of my entire collection. It's creamy, well pigmented and matte, but isn't drying either. When it does start to crumble, it only crumbles from the inside-out, so therefore it doesn't look as noticeable. The applicator of these are really nice which gives you a precise application. I've worn this for a good 6 hours without having to reapply. One negative I would say is that if you have quite wrinkly lips, you will need to apply a couple more coats as the lighter bright shades do show them off!

And we come to of course this product which has featured so often in my blog posts I seriously can't go on anymore about it. But I will. This is my favourite of them all. Yup, saving best for last. Hydrating, totally matte, pigmented and they smell like cake. I am in total love with this product although mine is practically nearly run out (must repurchase). I would honestly recommend, to all those reading, when it comes to wanting a properly matte liquid lipstick/cream thing, this would be the one. I cannot praise NYX enough for creating such a well designed liquid lipstick. Although you don't get as much product in this tube as other ones, it's worth it - quality over quantity hey!

  7. I love the NYX soft matte creams and the Revlon HD ones - i don't mind that they're not actually matte. I wasn't a huge fan of the Miliani ones. I found they crumbled on me. You need to try the NYX lip lingeries and the NYX suede ones, they are fantastic! And the Stila ones are great high end ones xx

  9. THANK YOU for this post darling, I'm always on the lookout for new lippies to try and honestly, this is such a fab & comprehensive guide! Believe it or not, I was taking some notes whilst reading this! :) x x I actually haven't tried most of these, but oh my goodness, I'm dying to try those NYX lip creams... I know that everyone raves about them anyway, but I have yet to get my hands on them... I love the fact that they smell like cake, haha! I'm a little worried that they might be drying though, most matte lippies are terribly drying on me. :( Still, I'd love to give these a shot! <3 Thanks for sharing, darling. Kisses. x x
