3 Summer Bases

Summer and Winter months are the hardest for me when it comes to finding foundations. In the Winter months I suffer from such dehydrated and dry skin that most foundations look patchy and cakey. In the Summer months, my skin is still dehydrated but tmi warning here I sweat a lot from my face, so nothing really sticks.

I've finally found three foundations ranging from light to medium/heavy coverage that are perfect for those with dry skin and looking for the perfect Summer base!

Firstly is the product with by far the longest name in history but also the lightest base out of the three product - The Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream. Now I'm not sure that because I purchased this in the States that the name is different or whether or not but this is one of the best BB creams I have tried. I usually like quite a bit of coverage, but when I was in New York last Summer, there was no way I was walking around with a layer of foundation on my face in 36 degrees. No way. I remember that they didn't have a light shade but only light/medium, and this only works when I've got a good tan going on, otherwise it is far too yellow. However, I've noticed that in the UK they do have a light only version, which I may repurchase for it! Interestingly enough, although it says for "oily skin" it's quite a watery consistency, so I'm not quite sure how well this would work on people with oily skin. For me, as I've got dry skin it does actually work. Also a little product goes a long way and it blends into the skin really nicely either with your fingers or a sponge (I don't recommend using a brush). As it is a BB cream, the product isn't as long lasting as foundations, so I would recommend priming 100% and setting it lightly with powder as well.

Next is the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum . This is a foundation like I'd never tried before - totally unique in consistency and formula. I picked this up after hearing how much my favourite Youtuber, Kathleen Lights recommended it for dry skin types. I have to agree it is amazing. I've done a full review on the foundation here, but just to reiterate: it's not medium coverage, to me it is very light, as I can still see my freckles come through and they do not look as if they have been painted over. This really does look like "skin" and not foundation. How I would best describe the coverage is that it evens out your skin tone with providing enough coverage for any subtle blemishes you may have.

Like the BB cream, as this is such a light formula, it won't last you 24 hours. What I would say, if you prep, prime and powder (the three important p's) it can last me on a work day from 8am-6pm. Why I would say this is a great Summer base is because of how lightweight it is. If you're on holiday, wanting to run out for dinner with family, there is no way you're going to pack on that Nars Sheer Glow is there? It's a breathable foundation that still provides you with an even complexion on the hottest days without melting off!

Lastly is the Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation. There are some moments and also people who just don't like a light coverage, and I totally get that. At work I prefer much more of a medium coverage as I'm in a air-con happy building. I give you my new holy grail everyday foundation, The Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation. I've only been using this foundation for a couple of months now but I honestly don't know if I would ever fork out on a high end foundation again. This is such an amazing foundation for girls with dry skin, it's not tacky, cakey or that weird patchiness either. It lasts on my skin (when I can remember to actually prime my face) that little bit longer than the bourjois foundation. The first place I do notice that it dissapears is my nose, but alas, I suffer from hayfever so that would be why. This foundation has already claimed itself as my favourite drugstore foundation in one of my recent posts here. The foundation also sits so beautifully underneath the Rimmel Stay Matte powder and really can handle the heat!

Top to Bottom: Garnier BB Cream, Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum & Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation
So there we have it, three bases that have got you covered in the Summer heat. Although the Summer in the UK has basically been and gone in the past week, one can still only hope for future sun! Let me know in the comments below some of your favourite Summer bases!

  3. I would never have touched the Rimmel foundation before but my skin has been normal/dry lately so I might have to get it. I love finding a good drugstore foundation that makes you not bothered about high end ones, my favourite at the moment is Loreal True Match :) x

    1. Oh you really should! I never thought I would like it but it's the only foundation I wear on a daily basis that doesn't cling to any dry patches! The L'OReal one unfortunately didn't work for me! I have quite large pores and made them really stand out! xx

  7. I really love Rimmel foundations so I'll have to try the Match Perfection when my Lasting Finish runs out! I do prefer a higher coverage, but in the summer I'll go a little lighter than usual.

  10. I completely agree with you on Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum, it's one of the best foundations for dry skin and I love how light it is. I used to love the Garnier BB cream but it's been ages since I last repurchase, need to pick it up again.
