Spectrum 10 Piece Essential Set*

It's been a long time since I've tried out some new makeup brushes and it's without a doubt that I squealed with delight when I opened the Spectrum 10 Piece Essential Set* that Spectrum had so kindly sent me. Currently the only makeup brushes I own are Real Techniques and Zoeva but there are so many out there that I've wanted to get my hands on and the Spectrum ones were definitely on the list.

I've seen them floating around the blogosphere a lot recently and have heard only such good things in reviews that I knew they would be an exciting addition to my collection.
The first thing that caught my eye was of course the bright colours - my god how pretty are these brushes? They are literally so pretty that I didn't use them for days as I wanted to ensure I was taking enough photos of them before getting them ditry! Wow how 'blogger' of me...Secondly, I cannot even tell you how soft they are. The bristles are gorgeous, Vegan and Cruelty Free and more importantly, according to Spectrum "no unicorns were harmed in the making" this was one of my biggest worries tbh! I would go to say that they are softer than Real Techniques and for 10 brushes you are seriously getting your money's worth for good quality here!

The 10 Piece Essential Set comes with the following brushes:

B01 - Flat Top Buffer*: This is the go-to foundation brush in the set and because it's a flat top I much prefer these for really blending in foundation into the skin. Personally I find it works best with a medium coverage foundation as I will still tend to lean towards a beauty blender if I go for a heavier foundation just to really blend it in, but with a medium foundation and a circular motion it applies foundation effortlessly.

A01 - Large Domed Powder*: This is probably one of my favourite in the collection. I love a good powder brush and this just applies powder so well that it doesn't pick up too much/too little product. This then makes my face look much less cakey and it feels like such a dream, so soft to apply and not bristley at all!

A05 - Small Angled Blush*: My second favourite brush in the collection, can you believe I don't own an angled contour brush yet? I know?! Along with a fan brush this is a brush that I've been missing out in my life. I tend to usually apply my contour shades with a thin brush and then brush out with a bigger powder brush, however this doesn't exactly give me the most defined contour look. This brush however makes for the perfect contour and blends out the product so well without over-blending and making it disappear but also without making it look streaky.

B03 - Buffing Concealer*: Finally a concealer brush!! I've been using my complexion sponge for my concealer for ages now, but i's definitely not the most effective as concealer is really hard to clean out of sponges! This is perfect for buffing in my Collection Lasting Perfection concealer which is quite high coverage whilst also being able to get right into the under-eye area!

A06 - Large Fluffy Shader*: I find this brush a bit too big to use for eye shadows as I find you can't be as precise with it as much as you can with a flat top brush, so instead use it to set my under eyes with a loose powder. This means that I can finally get into the tiny little creases under my eyes where I've used concealer.

B06 - Tall Tapered Blender*: Very similar to my fluffy Zoeva Crease brush, this is the next perfect eye shadow brush for blending out any shadows. It's so fluffy but also the bristles are a bit pointed to the end making your buffing still very precise! This will definitely be one of the eye brushes I'll be using the most just because it is such a handy brush to use daily. I always say that if you're going to have two eyeshadow brushes, one has to be a flat top brush and another a fluffy one. They are musts!

B04 - Small Angled Blender*: This is an amazing brush for defining a crease line. If you're looking for a mildly less defined cut-crease this is the perfect brush. Although a little weird to use at first, obviously not used to angled brushes that much I can now have a bit more of a defined crease rather than just packing it on with a fluffy-crease brush and hoping for the best!

A17 - Angled Brow* - I've been wanting to try out a new eyebrow brush for ages. The slight angle in the brush means you are able to apply the eyebrow powders effortlessly and it picks up product so well without leaving a lot of fall out, which trust me does not look cute under your eyes.

A15 - Lip Liner* - At first I was seriously confused by this brush, I had no idea it was a lip liner brush, but a quick google gave me a little push to realising that I am a crappy beauty blogger. I mean how could I not recognize a lip liner brush? Embarrassing. Though in my defense, I don't tend to really use liner palettes etc so haven't yet tested this one out, but the bristles are of course too of the same standard as the others!

A09 - Angled Eyeliner* - Another brush I probably won't use as much is this one. I usually stick to my liquid liners in packaging rather than in a pot, but this is a seriously cool brush regardless. I love the angle and design of this as it's the most unique I've seen - the brush tip is so tiny that you could create such an effortless line!

I am totally in love with these brushes and have to say a bit angry with myself that I've already used them, they are far too pretty to ever be used. I can't wait to get my hands on the marbelous collection on my next payday as I've been lusting over it and now that I've tried out the quality of Spectrum brushes I am in love!

You can buy the Spectrum 10 Piece Essential Set either on the Spectrum website here or on beautybay
