What I've Been Watching

I feel like recently there has been a lot of good shows on TV. Last month I did a similiar post which was a lot more SVOD heavy, but as a lot of my Netflix shows have gone on hiatus (Stranger Things and Pretty Little Liars I'm looking at you) I've resulted in having to find alternative shows to spend my evenings watching!

Our Girl - BBC

I never watched the first series of Our Girl but luckily you don't need to. The first series followed the story of  Molly an army medic in Afghanistan. However, the second series it's a completely new story of Georgie Lane, played by Michelle Keegan, whose joined Royal Army Medical Corp and joins a mission to Kenya. This has to be one of my favourite shows that I've been keeping up with this month. Although only on episode 2, this is seriously gripping. I can't believe there are only five episodes, but the story line is easy to follow, the acting is amazing, and of course it's a bonus that Luke Pasqualino is in it.

I've been a massive fan of the bake off for years and years (I mean who isn't?) and I have to say i'm massively disappointing that this will be the last on our BBC screens. Gone are the 'no ads' and 'quintessential Mel and Sue' as the Bake Off will move to Channel 4 in 2018. Sadly this also means that there will be a year long break of no Bake Off because of special licensing agreements. Not cool. So I am definitely treasuring this series. We've placed our bets on at work - I've gone for Andrew because come on, how cool was that bread basket? The one issue with Bake Off is that it always gives me a massive craving for cakes and biscuits" I personally don't think there is a really strong contestant this year whose really shining bright, but we have a couple of weeks to go still to find out! Let me know in the comments who you think will win!

One of Us - BBC

Okay admittingly this should be really a blog post called "What I've been Watching on the BBC" because apparently that's the only channel I've been watching. This mini-series actually finished last week but thought I'd share on here anyways in case anyone wanted to catch up. I love these mini series as there isn't that much commitment to keep up with them. This story follows a couple being murdered and their two families in Scotland who try and figure out what happened to them. However in the midst of it they are faced with a dilemma in which someone from the family has done something unforgivable but the real question is which one of them did it?

Victoria- ITV

Jenna Coleman plays Queen Victoria in the eight-episode series. This series follows the life and early reigning days of Queen Victoria. I'm usually not a fan of periodic dramas (unpopular opinion, The Tudors and Downtown Abbey bored me) however, I've actually really enjoyed watching this. It follows the difficulties of courtship, her mother and uprisings in the country against the monarchy (you know all those problems I went through when I was 18). My knowledge on English history is, I'll have to admit sub-par so I do find myself having to google a lot of the events and the people but other than that the acting is great and the story lines aren't too complicated either which I always find with periodic stuff.

So there we go, a couple of series I've been watching recently! I've said goodbye to Netflix this month and am actually quite glad, TV recently has been not too shabby. Let me know if you've been watching any of the above shows or if you've got any other recommendations of things you've been watching recently.

  4. I always love TV recommendations! I'll check out Victoria, I was also bored by Downton Abbey and the Tudors so hopefully that will be more up my street. And it seems like all of Britain is obsessed with GBBO! I wish we had a US equivalent.

    1. Oh definitely do! I think it will be up your street because it is so short and there are only a couple of episodes so you don't get too bored too quickly and it's so fascinating! xx

  6. I only got into Bake Off last year and now I love it! Andrew is adorable but actually a bit of a dark horse I think! I loved Selasi at the beginning but he's lost his way a bit, also completely agree with you on the period dramas front, I can't stand Downtown Abbey! I've not watched Victoria yetbecause I'm anticipating lots of exaggerations of things that may not have happened in that time and I love studying the Victorian era! Great picks :)
