The Bodyshop Matte Lip Liquids Review

Liquid lipsticks were all the rage in 2016 and I swear it took the blogging world by a storm. I've talked many-a-liquid lipsticks on my blog (blog post plug in) including my post about the Yay's and Nay's of Drugstore Liquid Lipsticks but a brand that was pretty late to the liquid lipstick party was The Body Shop. I think they came out with their range in November which is why I think their launch didn't really stand out and kind of became overshadowed by other launches happening in the run up to Christmas.

As I've got quite dry skin I can find liquid lipsticks a very hit or miss product because they tend to dry either horrifically crusty matte, or aren't matte enough for my liking. The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquids come in the classic The Body Shop packaging, very sleek and minimal. I would compare the packaging and the formula of the product as very similar to the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cremes. They smell equally as good as the ones from NYX, as they smell a bit of cake and vanilla which is definitely not a bad thing in my eyes, but I know some people are quite funny about products that are scented.

I really love the nude shades in the collection including; Crete Carnation & Nairobi Carmellia as the lighter shades have a longer staying power. The formula doesn't dry crusty like the MUA Luxe ones (which are definitely the worst Liquid lipstick formula I've tried) and is very comfortable. The colour pay off is just as good as you can either wear one layer comfortably or build up without it becoming crispy and flakey.

The darker shades like Goa Magnolia & Mauritius Dahlia however aren't as impressive. The darker shades as you can tell from the swatches are a bit patchier and therefore you definitely need to line your lips with a similar colour underneath. Goa Magnolia is a little bit better than Mauritius Dahlia in the pigmentation department but still not as opaque as I would have liked. The problem with the darker ones, you need around 3 layers for full opaqueness and by that point you will end up with crusty layers so you're better of lining instead.

Overall I think the Body Shop Liquid Lipstick formula is a great rival to the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cremes, at £6. To me I would personally skip the darker shades and go straight towards the nudes as they are stunning!

Let me know if you tried any of the Body Shop Liquid lipsticks in the comments below!

  4. The nudes look lovely! I had the same issue with the darker NYX shades in that they just came up patchy . Such a shame cause the other colours worked so nicely. x

  5. This is bang on and I totally agree with everything you said! I also did a review of the full set on my blog here: http://xcallyloves.blogspot.co.uk/2016/10/the-body-shop-matte-lip-liquid-first.html?m=1

Although my swatches look opaque, the darker ones were really patchy and took a good few layers, I just wanted a nice picture haha! The nudes are definitely the best, I wear Windsor Rose al the time. And they are actually exactly the same 8ml as the Nyx ones are, I think they're just slightly slimmer so it looks more!

    Great post anyway! Cally x

  7. I never even knew that they had created these liquid lipsticks, I think I've been living under a rock or something as I love those two nudey shades you've picked up. I need to get my hands on them!

  8. I have one of the darker shades of this and agreed that it goes on really patchy which is a shame as it's a gorgeous colour! I'll be sure to try the nude ones!

  12. I've only tried liquid lipsticks from two brands, but am keen to try more. One thing that stood out to me about The Body Shop's offerings was the range of shades, particularly their nude and more natural options. Lots of brands are all about the bold shades. After reading your review, I'll definitely be starting with a more natural option. Nairobi Carmellia has definitely caught my eye! Xx
