10 Reasons I'm Excited About Christmas

Once the John Lewis advert came out, that was it. It was officially Christmas. Okay fine it was the beginning of November but it was as if people had suddenly panicked into thinking that although Christmas was two months away, there wouldn't be any wrapping paper left in the shops. No seriously, people were bulk buying it in Guildford the other day?! Okay yes, I did pick up a few rolls too...I panicked.

So with Christmas around the corner I thought of 10 reasons why I am completely and utterly in love and excited about Christmas.

1) I get to go home. Although I'm so fortunate enough to have a lot of my family living in Surrey, my parents, brother and of course my cats (can't forget those) are all at home - Oh and my friends. Obviously. Going home for me is amazing. I didn't really get to spend that much time at home this Summer with my travels and last year because I was working and spent the New Year in Edinburgh I really missed out. So this year I'm going full out. Christmas, Skiing, New Years and of course my dad's turkey. Ermagad I'm excited for that.

2) Everything just looks magical. The shops start hanging up their ornaments in the window displays and there are decorated Christmas trees everywhere. With the Christmas lights being lit up in town centre and of course visiting some Christmas markets I just think everything looks ten times more magical. Oh and Winter Wonderland. Cannot wait for that.  Do you know how hard it is to not smack-type my keyboard in excitement right now?!

3) Advent Calendars. Definitely one of the highlights of December is counting down the days until Christmas. Every year my Grandma buys me mine and and every year I try my hardest not to devour the entire thing there and then. This year however I'm thinking about treating myself. Yes Caroline because you never do that do you? Aka, I'm having two advent calendars this year.

4) Snow! Now although this doesn't always apply here, back at home it most definitely does. The best thing about the snow at home is that it rarely snows that weird amount that it turns into slush. If it snows, it snows and it's as if the world is covered in powdered sugar. Minus the part where your feet nearly freeze because you stupidly wore flats on New Years. This year, I wear boots.

5) Christmas songs. Okay sure, I've been listening to these since the beginning of November but there is nothing better then some Wham!, Darlene Love and Wizzard blasting in the car when you're off to those Christmas Eve parties? Hmm apart from when Caroline sings along to them in the car. That's definitely not the best.

6) Christmas movies. Whether it be; Elf, Love Actually (my personal fav), Home Alone or The Holiday they just suddenly make me feel all warm, cosy and absolutely ecstatic. Do you know how many times my family laughs at Hugh Grant dancing to Pointer Sisters, like seriously we see it every time? My personal favourite is my parents purposely putting on Bridget Jones just so they can make remarks about the similarities between me and her. Can I cross out number one "I get to go home" - actually?

7) The food. This is the one time of the year that eating yourself until you look about 6 months pregnant. It gets so bad that when my dad says we can't have yorkshire puddings because it's not beef, I actually throw a full-out tantrum. We better be having bloody yorkshire puddings this year. Chocolate logs, celebrations, Heroes, stuffing oh and

8) The parties. Christmas Eve is always spent at the same party where unfortunately I mostly end up being the designated driver, I know worrying, in the snow -  but the food tho. The food tho. They always get these insane caterers and even though I know I'm going to eat my weight in turkey the next day, whose saying I can't do it the day before either? Boxing day is spent with my parent's friends, whose kids luckily are my brothers and mine's school friends which basically incorporates a mixture between number 7 & 8. On the 27th is of course one of my good friends' birthday which we all make ourselves available and well, let's just say no year is ever the same...

9) The alcohol. Yes this is me drinking champagne at 9:30am on Christmas day. My family is a firm believer that glasses should be filled to the brim on Christmas day, which is always a great decision until we try playing drunk charades. That did not go down well last year. Sorry expensive lamp. Or that time that I had to put my mum to bed at 10pm on Christmas day, she didn't even make it to Heston Blumenthal's Perfect Christmas. Tragic.

10) Presents. I'm putting this one last because obviously it's not one of the most important bits (I put family and friends first okay!) but it's still pretty damn exciting. More importantly though I love giving gifts. I have to say I am one of those people who puts a lot of effort into presents and making sure they are perfect so I love seeing their faces. I pretty much ask for the same thing every year so it never really phases me about getting my own but also my cats look darn cute when they play in the wrapping paper. So there is that.

So there are my 10 reasons to why I am currently listening to Michael Bublé's Christmas album and actually looking at throwback Christmas photos....yup I'm that person who has a Christmas countdown app on their phone. Eeeeeeep!

  4. Haha, such a great post! I feel like this year will be a weird Christmas for me, I haven't watched any Christmas movies yet and since me and my family will be out traveling we've decided (well, more like, my parents decided and my brothers and I didn't get to have a say as none of us live at home) to not decorate anything, I will only be trading presents with my brothers and we will not bake more than one piece of Rocky Road... sounds so sad like that, but I'm still very excited about the traveling and I will be making up for all the missed festivities next year!

    1. I actually did a similiar thing when I was a lot younger, we went to South Africa and we didn't actually do presents and stuff and obviously it was hot and a very different Christmas but I actually enjoyed it! As long as you're with family then I think it's still a perfect christmas! Enjoy your travelling and trips! xx

  7. Haha this is just about my list as well! I'm the same as you on snow, we don't have it where I live, but I grew up in Canada, so we definitely had that! I miss it still, there's nothing like waking up on Christmas morning to snow fights and snowmen.

  13. This post definitely made me excited for Christmas, I love how magical everything looks around this time of the year as well. I do wish our seasons were reversed in Australia though, I'd so love to have a snowy white Christmas as opposed to a stinking hot one!

    1. Hahaha, I actually spent one Christmas somewhere where it was hot and it was totally weird, but you should totally think about coming abroad one year to try out the cold, but obviously somewhere where you are 100% sure it will snow! xx
