10 Things You Know When You're Writing A Dissertation

1. Your acknowledgements page shouldn't be one of those clichés
Thank you to Wagamamas and my cats. You provided me with great guidance and support.

2. You don't realise how much reading you actually have to do to even begin to understand your dissertation.
Oh now I get it! Piracy and copyrighting is bad not good! I had this all wrong...6,000 words deep.

3. Your tutor could be the most useful or useless person whilst writing it.
Hiya, can you read my literature review? Oh you're in Bora Bora on Holiday? Yup no worries. I'll just fail. Nah, you have fun.

4. There is always someone around you to make you feel as if your chosen topic is absolute crap
"Yeah but, how is that going to prove that? Shouldn't you just do a focus group. Or an interview?"
 Shush. Just shush.

5. You won't find a singular dissertation that is similar to yours. Bloomin' helpful when you have no idea how to perform a semiotic analysis.
What the hell is a semiotic analysis anyway?

6. You'll hear a load of stories about people doing them a couple of days before the deadline -
Don't believe them.
"Yeah they completed it an hour before it was due."

7. If you're doing Media, there's always someone who thinks their dissertation is longer and better than yours. *Queue eye rolling*
"Yours is 12,000 words? That's so cute, you're so lucky!"
"Why how many is yours?"
"12,000. But I do a science so it's different."

8. You're not exactly sure how the structure is supposed to be. So you're kind of winging it until your supervisor gets back from Bora Bora.
Pretty sure my introduction comes first. Or is it the abstract? Or the literature review? No wait conclusion. That definitely comes first. Oh f*ck it.

9. Someone always has an overcomplicated title. You tend to nod off before they even finish telling you their research question
Sorry, you said yours had something to do about cats and potatoes?

10. You realise about halfway through your dissertation that you've been harping on for about 1,500 words that has nothing to do with your dissertation.
Sorry why am I quoting treasure island?

  7. Thanks a lot for the article! It contains warnings about all the rakes I went through myself in the process of writing a dissertation and his defense. You have written a very useful cheat sheet for the younger generation, which I will certainly use (if I don’t forget that I have it in my favorites ...). but in my case I had to turn to professionals, which is much easier. https://pro-papers.com/write-my-term-paper-for-me
