My Recent purchases: Review

A couple of weeks ago I treated myself to a few beauty products that I just had to let you know about. Rather than doing a haul post, I waited a couple of weeks so that I could review them and let you know how I got on with them instead.

Firstly I went by the Makeup Revolution counter, one of my all-time and much loved drugstore brands. I have been looking for a new bronzer as my Bourjois chocolate bronzer is becoming a bit of a pain to blend in as it's quite dark for me at the moment as well as a little shimmery. I therefore opted for the Makeup Revolution Ultra Bronze. For £3 I am in absolute love. I have been using this bronzer practically everyday. It gives me a much more natural looking sun-kissed look during the winter time and suits my skin tone so well. I even love using this to contour if I'm going on a night-out and the pigmentation is fantastic, without being too heavy that it is impossible to blend out.
The fact that it is matte is what really sets it for me. Finding a bronzer that isn't a shimmery orangey mess on my face is quite a challenge and so far I am very impressed!

Next I picked up the Makeup Revolution highlighter in Golden Lights. At first I was very apprehensive about purchasing this. Firstly, because I think I picked up the wrong colour and think the shade Peach Lights would have suited me better, but also the shimmer. When looking at the product it almost has that glitter-ball effect that I'm not a fan of and tend to stay clear away from. I was so pleasantly surprised when I actually popped this with a light-hand on my face. It's neither chalky, overly-glittery and sits well on my face. I've worn this so often on nights out and can still see my highlight when I get back home. I love to use this to highlight under my brow bone as well if I have gone for a more shimmer-eye look and surprisingly the colour Golden Lights isn't too light on my skin either. For £3 you really can't go wrong and I'm definitely thinking about repurchasing the Peach Lights as well.

I ran out of my Maybelline Brow Drama and instead of repurchasing like I normally do, I headed to another one of my favourite drugstore brands, Sleek. I picked up their  Brow Perfector in Light brown. Now this is the first of my purchases that I am a little iffy about. I absolutely love the colour of the brow gel, it really holds my brows in place and gives them a bit more definition. The one problem? The wand. Again with the wand! I am yet to find a brow gel that has a normal sized application wand. I don't know why they keep eyebrow wands the same size as mascara wands, but it just doesn't work. It takes a very careful hand to use this product to ensure it doesn't go all over your face. Anyone know of a brow gel that has a normal wand? Please let me know!

I received the Tarte Maracuja Cheek Tint Stain Blush Sheer Red in my LookIncredible February box which I wrote about here. Now I've always been one for a powder blush, mostly because I don't have the most delicate hands or application technique which I really think you need for a product like this. This product is a bit of a hit and miss on me. Rather than being a normal liquid tint, it is a gel formula, with a pump. Now, something I wish the pump did do, was dispense smaller amounts of the product as you are usually left with quite a bit of excess. It sits better on either a much lighter or much heavier coverage foundation than a mid-coverage one as it tends to move the mid-coverage foundation a little. I think with this cheek tint you really need to know your stuff..as it's quite a difficult product to use I think and am still getting used to it!

Finally I sneakily picked up a new Mac lipstick in Twig. I have been searching everywhere for a much darker and higher-end version of my Rimmel Kate Moss 08 lipstick and Mac Twig is the perfect one for me. This colour suits my skin tone so well and I love using it on a daily basis. With a satin finish it neither over-glossifies my lips or overly-dries them out like a matte finish. I am absolutely in love with this lipstick and although not yet the perfect nude (which I am still adament to find), it's a perfect elegant dark neutral shade for me!

Phew! Sorry for the overly long post! Reviews of recent purchases are definitely my favourites to read and post as you actually get to know how someone got on with a product unlike a simple haul post! I would love to know if you've tried any of the above products, do you agree/disagree and also what you've picked up beauty wise recently!

    1. I know I have had my eye on a few of their palettes but I think they are a lot more expensive over here and hard to get our hands on them! One day a sephora will open up in the UK for all of us! xx

  4. YES! I friggen LOVE Twig by Mac. <3 I picked it up in duty free recently and like you said, it matches my skin tone really well! As for the Sleek Brow Perfector, I don't get the size of the wand either! It's totally unnecessary haha! Must check out the MUR bronzer now though :)
