Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation Review

I've tried a lot of foundations in my time. BB Creams, full-coverage, cake-face, medium-coverage, no coverage, why-did-I-buy-this-coverage. I've tried a lot. Sometimes I can be really impressed with a foundation for a long time, count it as a holy grail and then realize that having to spend £38 on a foundation just isn't for me anymore. I praised the Nars Sheer Glow Mont Blanc Foundation for the longest time, it was the perfect foundation for me, worked on my dry skin and when blended correctly emphasis on that point it looked stunning. One downfall? The price. Student loan and all that. So I give you, the £10.99 foundation that has changed my life.

So, I went on a beauty blog and YouTube hunt for a drugstore foundation that worked with my skin type (dry) and didn't cost an arm and a leg. KathleenLights is a Youtuber I live by, I love her style, honesty and as she has a similiar skin-type to me, I tend to be able to revolve my makeup looks around her. The Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation is one that I've seen loads of people blog about and there being a lot of debate on whether or not the Serum or the foundation are the best. Kathleen Lights Review & Demo video on the serum foundation sold it to me. So what did I do? I said goodbye to my Nars sheer glow and in all honesty, I haven't looked back.

Firstly, the packaging. Duh cannot talk about a product without mentioning the packaging. I love this bottle, although glass, it's sleek and the best thing? The pump is amazing. Honestly, it gives out such a perfect amount of product and ugrh. Can you be in love with a pump? It let's you have such great control on the product. Love.

The product itself is incredible. You know when people say a foundation literally looks like skin. This is one of those. I have freckled skin so it's very hard for foundation to look like skin, but this foundation isn't cakey at all. Not one bit. As you can tell from the photo below, my freckles still show through, which I've actually started to love and embrace. It's definitely not a high coverage foundation and would say it's low-medium (but barely medium) so for those who love a lighter coverage this is for you!

It's smooth with a gel-like formula and feels so cooling and soft when applying. I love how this foundation doesn't cling to any of my dry patches. Although the wear of this foundation isn't as long as perhaps say high-end foundations there is a difference here. You know when foundations start wearing off, they leave a sort of patchy residue behind? This doesn't. It's almost as if it disappears evenly off your face. It's really odd I don't know how to describe it. Obviously I'm doing a bang-up job. The shade Vanilla Claire is perfect for me, a bit less orange toned than my Nars Sheer Glow Mont Blanc which is actually better for me. What I do have to say is that Bourjois does not have a wide range of colours. This does need to be changed so that so many more people can experience it's amazingness!

There is also a particular scent to this product, it's not a overly sweet or vanilla scent which I swear a lot of products have but like a refreshing apple scent to me. I love it regardless!

So far I am so so so impressed with this foundation. For now when I'm on a spending ban, I'm no longer going to be purchasing my overly expensive foundation when this does just the job! For anyone on the dry/flakey side, I would really recommend this as it is hard to find foundations for our skin types!

  3. This didn't work so well for me, but then I tried it in store. I think it works better with drier skin because a lot of my friends LOVE it, this foundation looks lovely on you though, it is great when we find inexpensive foundations that make our skin look gorgeous. I am keen to try out the new Milani 2-in-1 foundation as I think that would work well for my oily/combination skin. Great review, I'll be sure to recommend this foundation to some of my friends who have dry skin and eczema.

    1. I know what you mean, one of my friends who has oilier skin, said it basically slid off her face, and have eto agree that it's probably better for me! I was looking into that foundation as well ( I made a sneaky Milani purchase the other day) but I don't think it will work on mine - would love to know how you get on with it though! xx

  5. I really want to try Bourjois products but they don't sell them at drugstores in the US. I like a med to full coverage foundation but this sounds really nice for people that prefer lighter foundation.

    1. I've heard quite a few people say that with this brand, but I believe you can get your hands on it on Amazon in the States? I personally wouldn't say it's a medium coverage at all, and if I do have spots etc I have to cover up with concealer as well xx

  7. I have quite dry skin in the winter and I hate when I spend an arm and a leg on a foundation that emphasizes my dry patches! I'd love to try this! x

    1. I have this exact problem and a lot of higher end foundations don't cater for dry skin at all, so perhaps drugstore may be the way forward! xx

  10. We don't have this brand in the US, but I have dry skin too and I really recommend the L'Oreal True Match Lumi. It is a godsend and has SPF 20! I too am trying not to spend but I have been eyeing the Armani Luminous Silk Foundation to use for my engagement photos, special events and wedding...

    1. I believe Bourjois sell on Amazon in the States so may be worth checking it out! I haven't had much luck wiht most L'Oreal foundations as they emphasize my pores a lot, but will have a look in store at the Match Lumi one! Thank you for the recommendation! xx

  12. This is one of my top 3 drugstore foundations, it's freaking amazing! Whenever I feel lazy, I will use this because I know my skin will look great. I also like Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation, that's another good one.

  13. OMG yaaas, I was so happy when I saw that you did a review post on this, I've seen you mentioning it a few times on your blog and though, I know Caroline's going to do a review so I'll patiently wait haha. But it sure does sound incredible, esp as I too am trying to be budget friendly, and thank god it works for dry skin!! Would you say that it has a yellow undertone? Have a lovely weekend, and that jet lag doesn't hit to hard lol ♥

    1. Hahah! I was waiting for the perfect time! It definitely doesn't have a yellow-undertone. Comparing to my Nars Sheer Glow in Mont Blanc, which is supposed to be a shade match to Vanilla Claire, if you put them side by side, you'll see that the Nars foundation is a lot more orange toned, whilst this one neither has pink/yellow undertones. I think that's why I like it a lot more as I am not a yellow undertoned person at all! Glad the review helped and have a lovely week Trishna!! xx

  14. Yes i absolutely love this foundation! I have recently discovered it and its one of my must-haves now! Definitely great for dry skin! Another good one I like for dry skin is the Rimmel lasting finish 25 hr nude foundation! That is also amazing for dry skin :)

  15. Thanks for this review! I'm desperate to find a really good High Street foundation as I spend way too much money on my usual Mac Studio Sculpt, which I waste on wearing to work *monkey hands over eyes*

You have a lovely blog! :)
