L'Oreal Nude Magique Lumi Cushion Review

If you follow me on Twitter you'd know that when I first saw this foundation had hit the European market I was overly enthusiastic. If you don't follow me on Twitter you totally should because all I do is rave constantly about products I really want to get my hands on. It seemed to have taken absolutely forever for the L'Oreal Lumi Cushion Foundation to make it to the UK market as I first saw it in France over the Easter break and then in Switzerland, and Switzerland is NEVER on top of the beauty game I'm telling you. And yes, I was that person who went to the shop, on the day that it came out. But I finally got my hands on this product and have been using it for a little over three weeks. Spoiler alert, it's a good'n.

Now I have to admit, the packaging isn't my favourite. Firstly, it's quite flimsy packaging, although light and compact for travelling. The compact contains a mirror, a sponge-like applicator and underneath, the sponge foundation. One of the main problems with this foundation is that the packaging gets dirty really quickly. The sponge sits in this little dish within the compact, and that tends to get really dirty quite quickly. I'm also not quite sure if I got a faulty product, but the lid doesn't shut properly and takes quite a bit of effort for it to properly close, which is a problem as I've heard a lot of negative reviews about the product drying out quickly.

Now onto the product, something I actually love. I have actually lost the cute little tiny sticker which tells me what shade I picked up in, which appears to be the only thing that lets you know on the packaging. Which is just brilliant. I believe I picked up Vanilla, as I tend to be the second-lightest shade in most drugstore foundations. Typical drugstore foundation, they don't have a great variety of shades. This must be seriously annoying for those with either incredibly light or dark skin, seriously drugstores, pick up your game.

Anywho, rant over. This is a very light, dewy foundation which is perfect for my dry skin girls. There are two ways to apply this foundation. Firstly by gliding on the product, you can build up the coverage, but I must warn you, the coverage isn't much. If you suffer from acne or have the odd occasional spot, this won't give you that coverage you're looking for, although concealer works well on top of this foundation. Or, you can dab on the product either using the applicator sponge, which I surprisingly like, or a beauty blender, for a much more dewy complexion. I have to warn you, this is dewy. You will need to set your makeup regardless if you have skin like the sahara desert. The product didn't make me look cakey at all, and just gave me such a lovely even coverage, getting rid of my blotchy red cheeks. The product lasted throughout the whole day, although I did notice most had come off my nose, but didn't look patchy at all like the rest of my foundations when it did start to wear off, it just sort of disappeared. I actually gave this to my friend who has oily skin, and she absolutely hated this product. It left her feeling oily and didn't set very well into her skin, so I would personally only recommend this to those with normal to dry or overly dry skin though let me know if you have oily skin and have tried this product.

As you can tell from the swatch below, the colour is perfect for my skin tone so I was lucky in that department but you can also just see how light the coverage is, barely even noticeable.

So what are my overall impressions? Personally I think this is a great light weight natural foundation for the Spring and Summer time. Although a bit annoying that this is definitely only catered for certain shades and skin-type, it's a good drugstore foundation nonetheless.

  2. I've just picked up this foundation and I'm excited to see what it looks like on my skin, it can get a tad oily but I'm hopeful that with a bit of powder I can make it work :)

  3. Oh no! I'm so disappointed but thankful at the same time because I was going to purchase this foundation the other day (they didn't have my shade in stock) and I have very oily skin. I love the concept of this foundation and I hope with it being so popular they bring out a formula for oily skin as this defiantly won't be for me judging by your friend with oily skins opinion!

    1. The concept is incredible, personally I would love it to just come in a bottle rather than a cushion type thingy! Hopefully there will be a cushion foundation that does work for oily skin soon though! xx

  5. I love this foundation too! And I agree with everything you said! My packaging gets really dirty too. And i find the packaging a bit faffy and don't get the point in the whole cushion thing. But its a really good affordable foundation. So i can live with it xx

    1. Same here! I would love it if it came in a bottle with a pump, because the formula is the first which works so well with my dry skin, fingers crossed they do! xx

    1. It's a great foundation, I don't know if the cushion actually does anything to the formula, but it's a great formula regardless xx

    1. This is great for dry skin, but it works well for a good-skin day, and you can build it up, but just not as much as most coverages! xx

  11. This looks so cool, I think the most appealing part of this for me is it's so compact and you've said it's actually decent with just the applicator sponge. Actually quite keen to try this out when it comes over to Aus!

    1. I hope it comes to Australia soon, it's quite a cool concept of a foundation, though I do think the packaging is a little finicky and would work just as well in a pump xx

  12. This would have been amazing for me back when I was like 15! My skin used to be super dry but for some reason, in the last six months or so it's turned oily as hell. Which is honestly the biggest nightmare ever, I'm in a constant cycle of blotting and reapplying powder like three times a day! But again, it's a shame, because this looks so lovely! xxx

  13. I don't use foundation often, I don't like the cake feeling of having makeup all over my face, but when I need some coverage I go for BB creams, most of the time. I find that works for me because it's so light, you can barely feel it. Also, I have really oily skin, so after a few minutes of applying foundation my face is all glowy and awful disgusting, that's why I try to keep products to a min. Do you know a great foundation for oily skin? Please let me know!

    1. The one I know my friend recommends loads is the Nars All Day Luminous! As someone with dry skin I literally go for something that is all oil, all water and all hydrating which definitely isn't for you! Hopefully that mildly helps haha xx
