5 years ago I would have never have even touched a red lipstick. In all fairness, a couple of years ago I wouldn't even have a foundation that actually matched my skin so safe to say I wasn't the most educated when it came to lipstick. I picked up my first ever lipstick shade Rimmel 107 around 4 years and since then it's totally changed my experimentation with lipsticks. I've gathered a couple of my top four red lipsticks that I definitely think you need in your collection. I haven't really gone with a wide variety of different formulas, aka, they are all matte, mainly because, for me, if I'm wearing a dark lip, I find mattes much more trustworthy!
Firstly is the most recent red in my collection. I finally made my first ever Colourpop haul and have never been so excited. I picked up the gorgeous Lippie Stix in 'Poison' with it's matching lip liner and I'm honestly obsessed. Most of the reds I own are quite 'true reds' but I've wanted something that little bit more darker and Autumnal like. This is such a stunning dark red with a true burnt brown undertone and I am obsessed. The formula of a lippie stix is really comfortable. I managed to wear mine for 10 hours during work (I touched up once after lunch) and it still looked amazing and because it is matte it didn't bleed at all.

Left to Right: Colourpop 'Poison', Rimmel '107', Mac' Russian Red', 'Makeup Forever M402 |
Next on my list is of course the drugstore cult favourite, Rimmel Kate Moss 107. When swatched next to these other three reds I can't believe how non-red it looks in comparison. 107 is a berry/purple red which I think makes a phenomenal autumnal lip. For me a true red reminds me a little bit too much of Christmas (so I tend to only really wear mine in December) whereas because this does have such a lovely berry undertone, it can be worn, to me, more throughout the year I think for evening events. It's not as comfortable of a matte as I would say the lippie stix, however I think this lipstick has now been reformulated into a velvet/matte which may be a bit more comfortable - plus for the price, you cannot go wrong!
Next is what I call my true Christmas red, Mac 'Russian Red'. I actually wore this on Christmas day last year because to me it's just that iconic blush red. There are really no other undertones in it. I remember there being a massive fuss over mac reformulating some of their matte lipsticks, but I think I got the good'n because this is actually surprisingly comfortable. What I love about this lip colour is that finding a matching lip liner is quite easy because it is a true red whereas 107 and Poison are more difficult to pair with a lip liner.
The last of the red lipsticks is the beautiful Makeup Forever Artist Rouge Mat Lipsticks 'M402'*. Not only is the packaging of this product totally luxurious, feels weighty and just generally expensive. This is a very close shade to Russian Red, but is the tiniest bit more cool toned, so if you're someone who suits more of a cool toned red than this would be down your street. This is another comfortable matte lipstick but of course definitely recommend lip lining regardless because I just think it helps with precise application!
So there we have it, four red lipsticks that you seriously need to get in your collection! Let me know if there are any red lipsticks you think I need to add to my collection!
I only purchased the Rimmel Kate 107 a few days ago and I love it so much. I think that I will be wearing this a lot along with the Wet n Wild Sugar Plum Fairy, a lovely dark berry shade that I love! :)

Thanks Liz! xx
DeleteI loveee red lipstick! I too never used to wear lipstick, but then as I got older I started experimenting. To be honest I still don't wear lipstick that often mainly because I somehow smudge all over my face, but when I do, Mac's Russian Red is my absolute favourite red lipstick!

Everyone always talks about 01 so I feel like now it's a shade I really need to get in my collection! xx
DeleteI've always been a bit shy of reds and only really worn them at Christmas or special occasions, I don't think they suit me too much! But my favourites are the Chanel 'Coromandel' and NARS 'Rita' - The pigmentation and staying power is just unreal!! For a cheaper alternative the NYX butter lipstick in 'Mary Janes' is great too!
