Book Haul

With Winter creeping in, to me, there's nothing better on a Sunday afternoon than grabbing a cup of tea and a good book to curl up on the sofa with. I've always been a big reader and for me it's important to switch off before bed, take an hour away from a screen and read a book. I find that I sleep a lot deeper and fall asleep quicker if I've read beforehand! I picked up a bunch of books recently/have also been handed a couple from family and thought I would share with you what I've picked up and why!

An absolute age ago I read Air Babylon which follows the life of cabin crew on an airline, and all the wonderful/horrible/weird and downright sickening things that happen on planes and airports. If you've ever watched the BBC TV show 'Hotel Babylon' (an amazing TV show, you need to watch) it's based on the similar concept, all the stories about what's going on inside an industry and I was at my aunties the other weekend, whose basically my book recommender, and she knew I would have a proper giggle. I love books like this because they are light-hearted to read and if you aren't someone who likes to read anything too serious or scary, these are a great option!

#GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso

I've heard a lot of people recommending this book whether it be from people at work, blogging friends and also YouTubers as well. I have to be honest, I'm not much of a 'motivational book' reader. I personally find them sometimes a bit cliché, overbearing and a 'bit much'. I've really purchased this book more on a curiosity, as I find it interesting to learn about the mechanisms of succeeding in life, whether that be in making your own company or working in somebody else's. I've heard many mixed reviews, so I will be keeping you posted on the book.

I'm a big Lindsey Kelk fan, always have been. I absolutely loved her entire 'I Heart' series and the Single Girl's To-Do list (read that at a great time in my life) so when I saw this book I kind of knew it was another chic-lit I would like. I know a lot of people look down on these as 'easy books' but to me I think they make me relax more as I don't need to think too heavily into the story lines. The book follows a couple in which the man suggests that the two of them need to 'go on a break'. Now as someone who has been told by a guy they want to 'go on a break', I hope for her sake, the story begins really with her telling him to bugger off, whilst she moves to Paris and has a successful and wonderful life. But we'll see, something makes me think it probably won't start/end anything like that.

The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena

After reading the book 'Behind Closed Doors' by BA Paris (I highly recommend to everyone) I've started to absolutely love reading crime/thriller books. This was in my recommended section on Amazon with high reviews so thought I'd give it a go. Oddly enough follows the same story line, couple next door, secrets, dodgy neighborhood and a crime. I currently only have about 100 pages left, and my initial thoughts are that it is a little bit predictable, however there are some parts which are a little bit spine tingling. I'll keep you posted how I feel by the end of the 100 pages, but definitely loving a bit more of a thriller!

Find Her by Lisa Gardner

My cousin passed this on to me (whilst I was supposed to give her my couple next door book, which I hadn't finished in time, whoops sorry Emma) - another thriller. I think our entire family has been completely changed through the one B A Paris book because it's all we've been reading so far. The story follows Flora Dane, a surviving kidnapee who has now been tangled in another crime. My cousin said she was a big fan and that it was super fast paced which is definitely a good'n in my books (ha pun).

Let me know if you've read any of the above (no spoilers please!!) and if you have any book recommendations!

  6. I'm not really into motivational books either but had to give #girlboss a go because of the hype around it - I was hooked for a couple of weeks and read over half but ended up giving up with it, like it isn't good I was enjoying it, but it just seems to be a lot about nothing with the underlying message being if you want to succeed, work hard!
