Swooning over the Crown Brush Rose Gold Full Face Contour Set

I've wanted to get my hands on the Artis Oval brushes for ages but I'm not going to lie, the price for a single brush at fifty odd pounds is not something I would pay. Crown Brush is an affordable supplier of makeup and tools and I'm here to tell you I've got a new love affair with brushes. I'm someone who fell in love with the Real Techniques Complexion Sponge and couldn't ever see myself applying foundation with any other tool. That was until I tried the Crown Brush Rose Gold Full Face Contour Set*. My god are these pretty and functional!

Retailing on their website for £29.99 you get a set of three paddle brushes ranging from large, medium and small in size. My first impression was that the bristles were very dense and also quite heavy compared to the handles (which I will mention a bit later). They are a stunning rose gold colour, which yes, totally swooned me over.

I firstly used the largest of the brushes to apply foundation which it is just perfect for. I've fully tested this with 4 foundations ranging between light and heavy coverage to really test out how it works with different formulas. One of the problems I have with lightweight foundations like the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation is that a complexion sponge does soak up a lot of the product. However because the bristles are so dense you don't have this problem with the Crown Paddle brushes. My foundation isn't left streaky and buffs in really well. I've also noticed that my makeup lasts a little bit longer and is less patchy then when I use a complexion sponge which is such a bonus. I've been using the mini one which I have to say is bloomin' adorable for concealer under my eyes and on my nose because it's so small it can get right underneath. I don't use many cream products but if I get my hands on a cream contour the middle sized paddle brush would be perfect for contouring!

My one and only gripe is the handles, however when I went on the website I realised why. Compared to the rest of the brush the handle is actually really lightweight and scarily bendy in which I'm terrified that the handle will snap (though I may apply foundation more aggressively than some people). However according to their website the handles are meant to be bendy and twisty so that you can really move the brush to the shape of your face 'Unlike most paddle brushes, these brushes are designed to withstand twisting and bending and will not snap under the pressure of those with heavier hand'. I think because I'm so used to normal brushes being stiff, it's something I'm going to learn to love because it doesn't deter me from loving the brush and they haven't snapped yet so I can assure you they are sturdier than they look.

I can't wait to keep using these more and have a feeling this is going to be the new 'Spectrum' of brushes and hope that you all equally love it!

  1. These brushes sound so cool. It's awesome that the handles are meant to bend as well, I'd be scared that they'd snap off too otherwise :)

  4. I've been pretty sceptical of these kinds of paddle brushes but these ones are so beautiful! I'm starting to get a bit tired of always having to wet and spend ages dabbing foundation in with my Real Techniques sponge so these might be an answer to my problems...
