My Blogging Routine

Recently I've been loving reading everyone's blogging routine posts and I definitely thought I would jump on the bandwagon.

Planning: Because I work full time, I don't really get any time during the week to take photos or write posts, so I know that the weekend is the only time I can blog. I therefore try and think of blog post ideas during the week, in the evenings or during my lunch break (sometimes with the help of my co-worker Kate) and I jot them down in my notebook. I either get inspiration from other blog posts, for example this one, I saw the idea on Cliona's blog  or sometimes they literally come from when I do my makeup in the morning, or see something in the magazines at work.

Organizing: I tend to be busy on Saturdays seeing friends or family, but on Saturday evening I like to gather up all the products that I'll need for my blog posts. I then clear the table in the living room, get out all the props and basically annoy my flatmate by causing havock in the living room.

Photo Taking: I usually have to wake up on Sunday around 9.30am as I find the best sunlight is between 10.30am and midday, where the sun isn't too strong and hopefully sits behind the clouds which act as soft-boxes. I then get very snap happy, taking a mixture of photos for both my blog posts but also a variety for Instagram (because let's face it, the engagement on that social platform is crap).

Blog writing: I usually like to spend my evenings on the Sunday or Monday writing the blog posts whilst they are still fresh in my mind, however I sometimes like to spend my lunch breaks at work writing them, and also reading other people's blogs. I try and write the blog posts, press preview, and then do some editing, making sure there aren't any spelling mistakes (but there usually are) before hitting publish.

Scheduling: Sometimes scheduling blog posts can be hard, for example, if I've had a busy weekend and haven't had time at all to take photos (this happens quite often) I have a couple of blog posts on retainer. My schedule is Tuesday's, Thursday's and Sunday's so I tend to think ahead as to which blog posts I need to write firsts and which photos to edit. I then use Tweet Deck to schedule most of my blog post tweets but Instagram and actually physically pressing 'publish' on my blog posts is done manually (because the blogger mobile app is the worst thing in the world).

So there we have it, a rundown of my blogging routine. Like I said, there are just some weekends that I don't get round to taking photos (for example I spent the entirety of this Sunday in the sun) and therefore I miss out a couple of days, but I find it best to not get too worked up about it because I want to ensure I still love and enjoy blogging!

I'm actually going to be taking a week off blogging to enjoy bank holiday and just give myself some time to rejuvenate after some stressy work weeks! I'll be back on the 23rd though!

    1. Thank you! Oh I agree, because sometimes you can just get a feel more for the blog post once you've taken the photos! xx

  3. I like this idea of a flexible schedule, I normally end up having the idea for posts and writing them out before I think of what sort of photos I want to use, which sometimes leaves me a bit stuck without any batch photos pre-prepared! xx

    1. Yeah I know exactly what you mean, that's why I now have to take photos before writing the content as I tend to switch up the products midway through taking photos! xx

  4. I did a post on organising my blog yesterday, one of my favourite posts so far I think! I like the idea of taking bulk photos for Instagram, I am always last minute thinking what to post on there and have to agree, the algorithm has changed it too much.

  14. It's so interesting to hear how you cope with your blog, full time job and social life. It's amazing how everything falls into place throughout the week. Kind of find it great that you have to wake up at a certain time on Sunday so you can get the right lighting haha!

    1. It's definitely difficult but then I also know my limit as to when to stop and take a break from my blog too like this wake! Hahaha, it's so annoying though because by 12 o clock the sun fades in our flat so 9-12 it is! xx

  17. I'm really good at sticking to my photography routine (it's similar to yours, Saturday mornings between 10 and 1, editing between 4 and 5pm) but I am awful at writing my blogposts! I always end up typing them up at 11pm on a Saturday night, and then quickly finishing them in the morning because I fell asleep! xx
