What I've Read This Summer

When it comes to being on holiday I almost cram my entire "to read" list into a week. Whilst I was away in Sardinia I wanted an array of different genres and books to delve into and thought I'd share them in case you're looking for some book inspo!

Power by Naomi Alderman- This was a pretty beefy book, and not really in terms of length, but it's a book that covers  subjects that really do make you contemplate and analyse the deeper metaphorical themes. Power tells the story of  Women who around the world find out that they have the power to release electrical jolts of energy in which they abuse their power and become the dominant gender. I finished this book with a lot of unanswered questions but it was such a unique read I would highly recommend it. I can see this becoming almost the Lord of the Flies or The Road A-Level reading as there is a lot to digest and pick apart.

Surprise Me by Sophie Kinsella - When I go on holiday I always need a proper beach read and Sophie Kinsella's books have always been my go-to easy beach books. I was super excited when I found out she had a new book coming out just in time for my holiday and downloaded it on my Kindle. This story follows a very much-in-love and happy couple who have the realisation that their forever marriage does span over many more decades than they had thought. To me this started off as a classic Kinsella book, but there was a bit of a dark twist to it in the end which I was not expecting. So just be prepared that it isn't very similar to her Shopaholic ones!

When you Disappeared by John Marrs - I absolutely love a crime book and John Marrs is the author of The One, a book I have passed along and raved about to loads of my friends and family. When You Disappeared was actually a bit of a different crime/thriller book, I didn't see the twists and turns coming and it was quite easy to read in the span of a day which I am very guilty of doing with books. The ending was a little abrupt to me but if you're a fan of The Couple Next Door and Behind Closed Doors, Girl on Train etc, give this one a go as it's one of the more different crime novels I've read recently.

The Image Of You by Adele Parks - This book was a bit of a prompt buy when I was in a book shop  looking for holiday reads. I read "I thought I knew you. But you're a liar" and thought, yup, my kind of book. The book follows Anna and Zoe, twins who although identical in looks have very different behaviours and lifestyles. I quite enjoyed this book, although the I did feel some of the 'twin' topics and twists were a bit clichéd it made for good beach reading and you almost finish the book not feeling any empathy for any characters which is very rare!

I've got a couple of weekends away still coming up and am always on the lookout for a commuting-read, so let me know in the comments below any book suggestions!

  4. I love Sophie Kinsella's books! They definitely are perfect for reading on the beach. I really want to get into more crime/mystery books, as I just tend to stick to romance xo
