Why I Can't Trial Skincare and What Works For Me

With blogging comes this obsessive need to constantly try out new makeup and skincare launches. I always get so excited when a brand reaches out or when a new hyped product is on the market because the first thing I do after reading the reviews of course is go out and buy it. Although sadly when it comes to skincare, I just can't do it!

How I would describe my skin type is severely dry, sensitive but still prone to hormonal spots which therefore means, I can easily get an allergic reaction or breakout from trialing out skincare. I've had it with a couple of products, including the Simple Kind to Skin Moisturising Facial Wash an absolute no-go which left my skin SO dry and broke me out along with the Charlotte Tilbury Charlotte`s Magic Cream which is just far too perfumed for my skin!

More annoyingly it's really frustrating when a skincare brand comes to me with new products to try out and I just get so worried to try it out in case it breaks me out!

Although saying that, this does mean that I have a seriously great handful of products that are my holy grail which I know are perfect for my skin.

Lush Ultrabland Cleanser -  Cleansers are actually the product that I break out the most from. I think this is because a lot of them can be really harsh on your skin and quite abrasive, so it's taken me a lot of trial and error to find my holy grail. I absolutely love this Lush cleanser because it is so gentle, hydrating due to the almond oil and because it is oil based, it's seriously amazing at removing eyeliner and mascara!

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Oil - I remember my brother got me this for Christmas a couple of years ago and honestly I can see such a massive difference in my skin. When I don't use this for a couple of days my skin feels less plump, a lot less hydrated and has more texture to it. I tend to use this every day, only 3 small drops and it lasts forever. I know a lot of people who try it out for a couple of weeks and don't notice a difference, but I really recommend sticking to it, because I do think it takes a good 2 months to see a difference!

Elizabeth Arden Skin Balancing Exfoliating Cleanser - I came back last year from my Summer holidays with a really bad skin heat rash on my face and I honestly didn't know what to do. I couldn't wear foundation because you could see how textured my skin was underneath. My flatmate recommended that I used her cleanser and after using only using it twice after cleansing my skin completely calmed down and has done wonders. I now only use it once every two weeks just to cleanse my skin and gently exfoliate it.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream - Everyone in the world knows that this is my holy grail moisturizer. As someone with such sensitive and dry skin it's really hard to find a moisturizer that isn't too ridiculously thick which ultimately clogs up all my pores. What I love about this product is that a little goes a long way. What I don't love about it, is that it isn't available anywhere apart from online which is such a pain when I run out of it! Considering starting a petition to get it to be stocked in Superdrug or Boots.

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Protectant - My last product is one product I think I will repurchase for the rest of my life. Another flatmate recommendation, in the Winter when I get really sick and blow my nose approx every 4 seconds, I get such a dry nose that it actually gets red, sore and severely tmi flakey. So I dab a little of this on my nose and my lips it's a fabulous lip balm and the next day it's literally so moisturized and the flakiness is gone. I can't thank this product enough for saving my dry patches!

So there we go, why I can't trial skincare, why I don't like to and what products work for me. If you've got sensitive and dry skin, seriously give these a go, I feel like my skincare routine is just complete and in a really happy place!

  5. Skincare is definitely a tricky thing to experiment with. I do love trying no skincare and my skin allows it without freaking out. With me there's so many new skincare products I want to try, but unlike makeup you can't try them all at once or close together. Whenever I introduce too many new skincare items into my routine, my skin freaks out and of course you need to test the effectiveness of the product as well which makes it more stressful then playing with makeup.
