SPF Beauty This Summer

Let's talk SPF. We all love the sunshine, but as a fair girl I can tell you sometimes it just isn't my friend and more than often I am an absolute idiot when it comes to being sensible in the sunshine. As I'm packing for my weekend in Nice, I'm also packing much needed SPF for those 29/39 degree rays.  I'm not going to state the obvious and tell you not to sit out in the sunshine, because let's be honest, we all know we do it but instead wanted to give a little rundown on the SPF I use and chose during the Summer rays!

SPF is what protects us from UVB which is a form of UV which is most likely to be your causes of sunburn and that immediate damage to your skin. Therefore the higher the SPF, the higher sun protection. However something to notice as well which is overlooked a lot is the UVA. You'll notice that on a lot of UK packaging we have UVA ratings ranging from 0-5 stars. UVA is associated to skin ageing and penetrates into your skin a lot more than UVB so it is essential to protect against UVA too.

This is why it's important  choose a high SPF as well as a high UVA star rating. My favourite sun creams which you can get in 30 SPF and 50 SPF are the Soltan Face Protect and Moisturuse Suncare Cream  and the Soltan Protect and Moisturise Suncare Lotion. They also have the 5 star UVA protection so in my opinion the all rounder. I see a lot of people complaining about the greasiness of it, and to be honest I don't feel it at all, whether that is because I have dry skin, or don't care because I'm lying on the beach, I don't know but I haven't experienced any problems at all with it. And for those Vegans out there, guess what, it's vegan friendly too! If you've got oily skin the Avene Cleanance High Protection SPF 30  is my flatmates go-to. She loves it because in her words "doesn't have a lot of shit in it" and is just skin-feeling good.

On another note, something I feel is totally ignored is day-to-day SPF. I tend to always put sun cream on during the day before my foundation. According to skincare experts you should apply it after moisturizer and before foundation. I actually find it fab for my dry skin as it's an extra moisturizer but if it's a step that you can't fit in I reccomend, definitely chose a foundation with SPF in it. The BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturiser has an SPF of 30+ in it along with IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream which an SPF50+ which protects from both UVA and UVB rays.

Of course it also just takes being sensible in the sun as well, wearing a hat anyone else get a totally burnt scalp? not sitting out in that midday sun (12pm-3pm) and monitoring any moles and freckles and just keep topping up the sun cream!

Let me know what your favourite sun cream products are and any tips you have for being SPF sensible this Summer!

  1. LOL I'm a wordsmith. It really is a great brand for sun protection though! I also love Alba Botanica too because they have SPF oil, everything smells like a tropical island and their all natural ingredients mean their products are reef safe which is super important to look out for if you're going snorkelling or in the ocean at all really! BRING ON THE NICE SUNSHINE!! xx

  2. I also reach the Nivea Suncream as I've never had any problems with that one, but these sound so good! It's amazing that they're good SPF and UVA too. Also I suffered with burnt scalp on holiday, as I had my hair in a bun 99% of the time, so couldn't get a hat on haha, it wasn't pleasant xx

    1. I haven't used Nivea suncream in ages, but I used to love using the kids one because it was so thick haha! Oh god scalp burn is the WORST I used to get it all the time and then found a new love of hats, instead of a bun, I would just shove my hair up in the hat and it worked just as well haha! xx

  5. I've been loving the Soltan SPF this summer, it's the only thing that I've found to not cause terrible breakouts on my face as other sun creams just seem so greasy! Great post! x
