How To Liven Up Your Zoom Pub Quizzes

We must be on at least week 10 of our pub quizzes and zoom quizzes and I don't know about you, but they can sometimes get quite monotonous especially when you have a couple a week. We've currently got three a week, one with my family, one with my flatmates family and then one with a couple of friends on a Sunday.

With three a week, we've definitely started to become that little bit more creative with some of our quizzes, so I thought I'd share a couple of ideas with you as well, surely there are only so many times you can be asked what the capital of Australia and Canada is not kidding, I don't think I'd still trust myself to get that right now to be honest.

Theme up each week & dress up accordingly

If you follow me on instagram, you may have seen a couple of our attempt at this. We started doing the dress-up with my family and it's been absolutely hysterical. We've had everything from popstars, royal family, nature, art, harry potter and everything in-between. We took it in turns for someone from each family group to make up a theme for the quiz (i.e Music) and then everyone had to dress up in that theme. Everyone was then given a round within the 'overall' theme to create 8 questions. So for example for Music we had rounds on missing lyrics, famous bands, film scores, artists with one names. You'll be so surprised with what you can come up with. Need to be a queen? Make a crown out of a cereal box and use a scarf as a royal sash.

Add some unique rounds

Bored of history, geography etc? Introduce some new rounds such as 'Go Fetch' where someone asks everyone to go and collect something and whoever comes back with it first gets the point. Car Keys, Peas, "something I'd like to drink" it gets everyone a bit more competitive and active!

If your family or friends are big into social media, add in a round of "whose caption/post is this". Go deep and find some embarrassing status and get everyone to guess, not only will you be horrified by your own, you'll be in hysterics over some other people's.

To make it even more challenging, add in a 'wipe-out' round. The most brutal and definitely the one that I've failed the most at. Each question is worth 2 points, but if you get one question wrong, you get entirely wiped out and you don't win any points. You can 'skip' questions you don't know/feel 100%. It's definitely the most disheartening yet v tense round.

Host a 'Family' or 'Friends' Themed Quiz

One I've hosted this week is an entirely family themed quiz. How well do we know each other? I've included a baby photo round, Where in the World  (deep stalking of instagram/facebook) guess the year and location, social media round, general knowledge round (questions on general questions related to do with each person in the quiz), emoji round (emoji's based on jobs/names/locations to do with everyone).

Alternative Zoom Games

Lastly if you're bored of pub quizzes end of, try something entirely different. Host a bingo night (we did this and obviously all dressed up for bingo) or give a murder mystery/escape room a try. There are loads out there but the ones I've played are from Escape Hunt UK and are brilliant fun and can be done over Zoom - you can get them on their website here

  1. It's fun to see the pub quizzes because they're a real English tradition, and bringing them online for lockdown is really cool! Dressing up is a great way to have even more fun, that's a wonderful idea :)
    Take care!

  5. Yes we need to get more creative. I don't think I can go through another round of zoom to speak about personal anxieties and family feuds (only when needed). We need to be able to have fun again
