ALDI'S Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream Dupe Review

I for one love a cheaper alternative. If there's something that you can use that is just as good as something double the price, I don't see why not. There's a lot of controversy around Aldi as a brand and it creating dupes for other brands, and whilst I'm not going to go into it massively, I do think that there is a place for being able to offer people good budget alternatives.

I've been a big fan of the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Protectant Cream, and my cousin told me about Aldi's Lacura Miracle Cream Skin Protectant, which ultimately is a dupe for EA one.
The ALDI Skin Protectant retails at £3.99, around a 7th the cost of Elizabeth Arden which usually retails at £28 (although seems to be currently on offer).

The bottle is 50ml, the same size as the Elizabeth Arden one, and well as you can see from the packaging, it's near identical.

Obviously this is all insignificant if the product itself doesn't match up. Lacura aims to "Help protect, soothe and moisturise your skin when you bring this Miracle Cream into your daily skincare routine. Designed to help your face feel fabulous, this cream works to soothe any dry skin whilst also containing anti-inflammatory benefits. The Miracle Cream will also work to comfort minor weather burns, scrapes and abrasions".

It has the same selling points as Elizabeth Arden which is to help heal dry skin, burns, scrapes and abrasions. Looking at the other reviews on ALDI. it seems some people have used it as a full face cream, which I highly don't recommend, neither with EA or ALDI. It's a heavy and thick formula, and you're meant to use it sparingly. For example, if you have a certain dry patch of skin, chapped lips, chapped knuckles etc, applying it there, rather than using it as a face cream.

I've been using this for just over 2 weeks now. I don't think this matches up to the quickness in terms of how Elizabeth Arden is able to change my severe cracked lips within 2 days. It takes a lot more time to work, and I feel it works better as a general lip balm, rather than one that needs to heal really cracked lips.

I think I will continue to use both products in my routine. The Elizabeth Arden one as a healing on, and the ALDI one as a general "I need to moisturise my lips a bit". Elizabeth Arden does get increasingly expensive as I use it a lot during the Winter months, so I'm going to keep this to hand perhaps for in the office/on the go.

  2. 8 hour cream is such a classic that it'd be hard to get something that would really live up to it! x

  3. Oh I've never tried anything from Elizabeth Arden or anything from Aldi's beauty range so this was very interesting to read! Sometimes it is worth investing in a product x

  4. I haven't tried either but at least the Aldi version might help you get a bit more time out of the EA if you can use it on your lips! xx

    1. Yeah exactly, it's nice to keep in your handbag and use as a lip balm, but it's definitely not as good as a 'healing' product xx

  5. That was an interesting comparison! A great alternative for people who can't afford the Elizabeth Arden cream when they need it, and want to find the next best thing! :) There's a lot to be said about the positives and negatives of Aldi's dupes, but to be honest I find most of them brilliant!

    1. Exactly, I didn't go much into the controversy of it all, but I think it's good for people to have a more budget friendlier option x

  7. I've never tried anything from either brand, but I think on this occasion I'd rather go with the EA version. As it sounds a lot better. Great review xx

  9. Slightly lighter texture than 8 hour cream @$35 form smaller tube, will be stocking up as my local has just reduced this wonderful product.
At the end of the day both are basically petroleum jelly which is one of the very best occlusive moisturisers on the market,
Sinks in surprisingly quickly, perfect after Hylouronic acid.
The original is one of Ardern's FIRST product and gets its name after a friends child burned its hand, the result was the burn was almost completely healed in 8 hours.
