5 Books On My Reading List

Happy World Book Day Everyone! I've fallen a bit short on my reading the past three months, mainly because I've been going to bed so late after binging Downton Abbey, and secondly, my current book (Conversations with Friends) is a bit of a slog to read, but I'm nearly there.

However I thought I would share 5 books that are on my immediate TBR pile

The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri

This is a book I actually got my mum for Mother's Day must've been last year who absolutely loved it and actually everyone I've spoken to about this book has loved it. The premise of the story is around the flight of refugees from Aleppo in Syria during the Civil War as they make their journey to Europe. It is a work of fiction but the author worked in a refugee camp so has used elements of her experience and stories within this book. It has been on my TBR list ever since I got it for my mum and I've heard its an incredibly emotional read.

A Bit of a Stretch by Chris Atkins

One of my goals with reading is to read more biographies. In I guess what is a twisted voyeuristic approach to reading, I find reading accounts of people with interesting jobs/backgrounds or moments in their life a good way to ease into biographies if it's not something you've read before. This was recommended to me after my books The Prison Doctor and Unnatural Causes. A diary of Chris Atkins who was imprisoned for Tax Evasion.

Away with the Penguins by Hazel Prior

I've seen this book everywhere and have heard incredible reviews about it. A feel good book just what we need this year. Veronica McCreedy lives in a mansion by the sea. She loves a nice cup of Darjeeling tea whilst watching a good wildlife documentary. At 85 she spends the majority of her life at home alone, until one day she makes a decision that will change her life. A bookclub favourite this emotional and poignant book is definitely on my list!

One Of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus

Another book that I've seen everywhere is this series by Karen M McManus 'One of Us'. There are two books in the series and is a 'whodunnit' book which I always love. Said to be "Pretty Little Liars meets The Breakfast Club" I'm intrigued to see if this book lives up to the hype!

The Switch Beth O'Leary

I had read Beth O'Leary's The Flatshare a while back and whilst it was sweet, I found it quite predictable and a tad contrived which I know is a very unpopular opinion. However, I thought I'd try her other book to see if I enjoy this book a bit more. "Leena escapes to her grandmother Eileen's house for some overdue rest. Newly single and about to turn eighty, Eileen would like a second chance at love. But her tiny Yorkshire village doesn't offer many eligible gentlemen... So Leena proposes a solution: a two-month swap. Eileen can live in London and look for love, and Leena will look after everything in rural Yorkshire." This sounds like the perfect beach read (or park read when we're allowed to) so will keep you posted how I fare in comparison to The Flatshare!

Let me know in the comments below what books you've got on your TBR pile!

  4. I've heard quite a lot about Beth O'Leary's books! Though I have yet to try and read a contemporary again (it's been years), when I do, some of hers are on my TBR. Your opinion on Flatshare is interesting & I'm gonna keep it in mind going forward! x

  5. I thought the same thing about The Flat Share, as soon as I read the blurb i guessed the outcome haha but it was okay for what I like to call a 'mindless read'. Im reading The Rumour by Leslie Kara at the minute and I'm hooked! Milli x - millidavison.co.uk
