5 Favourite Happy News Stories This Week

The news agenda for the past couple of weeks has been heavy, that we can all agree. For some I know it can sometimes get too heavy and switching off the news or your socials is sometimes the best way to remove yourself for your own good. As much as it's important of course to be educated, to share and to talk, likewise it's just as important to know when is the right time to give yourself a break.

As much not wanting to tear away from the news agenda at all, I wanted to share 5 of my favourite happy news stories this week that I've seen which will hopefully brighten up your day! I'm re-including a link to 5 Places To Seek Positivity Online  which has a list of places I try and seek positivity online!

Channel 4's series It's a Sin is being credited for huge surge in HIV tests - Channel 4

18.9 million people have watched It's a Sin (myself included) which follows a group of young teenagers living in London during the AIDS epidemic in the early 1980's. The drama coincided with National HIV testing week and according  to numerous trusts and HIV testing data, over 17 thousand orders of HIV tests were placed, more than double the previous year. 2,200 rescued turtles were release back into the gulf of Mexico  -  Amii.illustrates

When Texas' weather plummeted and left many people without heat, power and water, including a local sea turtle rescue shelter. In addition to that, thousands of sea turtles around the gulf were also being 'cold-stunned' due to the same falling water temperatures. After hundreds of volunteers, the rescue centre was able to set-up recovery for all of these turtles and once they had been rehabilitated, were returned at sea. Such an amazing effort made by the teams. You can read the full story here

The doodleboy lands job decorating restaurant - Upworthy

Nine-year-old Joe was discouraged from doodling during class but has managed to land himself a job decorating restaurant. He was invited to decorate the dining room of 'Number 4' restaurant in Shrewsbury, England. It's totally brilliant that a kid with such talent is given the opportunity to do something like that and be so passionate about art!

Snoopy has doubled her weight

If you didn't know, last August my flatmate and I rescued a 15 year old cat called Snoopy [head to her instagram here. She was severely underweight only weighing 2.2kg as she had an over active thyroid that hadn't been treated. The other day, Snoopy went for her check-up appointment and is now at 4.3kg, meaning since last August she has doubled in weight. The vets are super pleased with her, she's otherwise extremely healthy and are so happy with how far she's come!

Whale Sculpture Catches Crashed Dutch Metro Train - The Happy Newspaper

In November last year, a metro train crashed through the barriers at the end of the track. Rather than plummeting into the water beneath, a whale sculpture which was designed in 2002 which sits just behind the barriers, managed to hold up the train. Thankfully the driver freed himself and climbed to safely, all thanks to the sculpture. Full story here . What an incredibly random and yet amazing story!
