Currently Listening To: Podcasts

In the past couple of months I've definitely started to listen to a lot more podcasts. With going into work every now and again, the walk to and from is about an hour and a half and with nothing else to do apart from walk, podcasts are the perfect company. I like music, but podcasts really make you lose track of time!

Guardian In Focus (It's a Sin, Why is Sex & The City Coming Back To Our Screens & Dating in a Pandemic)

Firstly a recommendation podcast from my flatmate is Guardian in Focus. It first started with the Why Is Sex & The City coming back episode which gave a rundown on the reboot of the show, how they're making it more accessible, diverse and applicable to 2021 and what we can be expect. The It's a Sin episode is brilliant as they talk to an ex-nurse on the wards of hospitals during the AIDS epidemic. I find Guardian's podcasts both informative and I really enjoy the different themes as there is something for everyone.

Guardian In Focus' Freshwater 5 Series

This series deserves it's own separate recommendation. Another Guardian in Focus podcast, 'Freshwater 5' follows the investigation of 5 men who were sentenced to 104 years in total for a drugs smuggling along the English coast. 53 million pounds worth of cocaine, but the 5 men convicted have always insisted their innocence. There are 5 episodes of this podcast, which delves into the evidence and investigation. There are 5 episodes, with the last episode matching up to the week in which the men are going to court for their appeal. This podcast is incredibly compelling and really has you questioning the evidence, the accounts and the jury's decision.

Not Such Thing As A Fish

I randomly came across this podcast when I was walking home from work one day. Not A Fish is a weekly podcast with James Harkin; Andrew Hunter Murray; Anna Ptaszynski; Dan Schreiber, the writers of QI, come together to discuss their favourite 5 facts they've found that week. Now I love a random fact, I love a silly podcast and that's what this is. It's light hearted, sometimes comedic, sometimes actually education but I think this is such a great podcast if you like those sorts of char shows like QI, 8 out of 10 cats and Mock The Week.

Wondery 'Against The Odd's Thai Cave Rescue'

I think we all remember the news story as to when 12 young Thai footballers went missing and were trapped inside the caves in Thailand. I remember following the story when it happened but didn't know that in-depth of the mission, the in-s and outs so when my boss recommended this podcast I knew it would be fascinating. I'm only on episode 2 but I've found it completely captivating, and engrossing. It's an incredible story and the way they've talked about it is so visual.

Let me know in the comments below what you've been listening to recently, music/audiobooks/podcasts pop them down!
